Slovak legend Miroslav Karhan has made significant statements about Fenerbahçe’s new signing, Milan Škriniar. The Slovak football figure answered questions about Škriniar posed by his country’s media with sincerity.
What are your thoughts on Škriniar being loaned to Fenerbahçe for half a season?
He’s going to a team where he’ll play. This is the most important news for him and the national team. It’s crucial that he quickly regains a regular match rhythm.
He’s been on the bench for nearly six months. Won’t that be a challenge?
It will take some time for him to adjust. It seems his new team will need to be patient and give him time to adapt to his new environment.
“PSG WAS NOT THE TRANSFER OF HIS LIFE”
Škriniar may have made the transfer of his life by joining PSG, but he gradually lost his spot in the starting eleven. What does it mean for a footballer when things don’t work out at their dream club?
I wouldn’t call it the transfer of his life. Inter is a better club than PSG. Serie A in Italy is more competitive than Ligue 1 in France. From a financial perspective, it could be considered a major transfer, but if you join a new team and gradually lose your place in the starting lineup, it’s certainly not an easy situation.
His injury impacted him, and he ended up on the bench, waiting for his chance. What’s your take on this?
I remember going three or four weeks without playing and watching my teammates take the field. It was a significant issue for me. Competing to return is not easy. Plus, PSG has 20 players with the potential to be in the starting eleven.
Was Škriniar’s transfer from Inter to PSG a mistake?
In my opinion, yes. Inter is a stronger team than PSG. The level of competition and the quality of rivals are also higher.
“HE WILL DEFINITELY PLAY!”
The Turkish league is a very competitive league. Will Škriniar regain his place on the pitch?
I definitely think he will play. Once he does, his confidence will grow, which is great news for the national team. He admitted during this year’s Nations League that he didn’t get as much playing time as he wanted.
Now he needs to regain his confidence at Fenerbahçe because Slovakia expects to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. When he’s in form, the national team performs better.
Does Miroslav Karhan have any advice for his successor as national team captain?
He should focus solely on football at Fenerbahçe because there are many distractions in Istanbul to enjoy.
