Bodrum FK Coach Volkan Demirel: “I Respect Mourinho and His Thoughts on Süper Lig”

Bodrum FK head coach Volkan Demirel shared his thoughts on Jose Mourinho’s comments about the Süper Lig, saying, “I respect him. We’re not here to debate Mourinho’s coaching. That’s just his style. He enjoys these kinds of things.”

Speaking to beIN Sports, Demirel discussed his career plans, Bodrum FK’s goals, and competition in the Süper Lig, offering insights on a range of topics.

ON MOURINHO AND FENERBAHÇE

Commenting on Mourinho’s statements about the Süper Lig, Demirel remarked:
“I respect him. We’re not here to question Mourinho’s coaching. That’s his way—he enjoys engaging with rivals, fans, and the media. Whether things will go well or not, time will tell. It’ll take him some time to adjust to Turkey, and he’s experiencing that now. I believe he’ll manage both himself and Fenerbahçe successfully in the near future.”

COMPETITION IN THE SÜPER LİG

Addressing the competitiveness of the league, Demirel said:
“Financial strength is essential to increase competition. There’s no team that can currently compete with Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray. We need to operate within our budget. Speaking as Bodrum FK, we tailor our steps to our resources. Catching up to Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe is incredibly difficult. Our focus is on improving our gameplay and ideas.”

CAREER GOALS

Sharing his ambitions, Demirel stated:
“My current goal is to achieve success with Bodrum FK. It’s always about the next step. The national team and Fenerbahçe are long-term aspirations for me. However, it’s too early for that now. I’d say I’m not ready for such roles yet. I’m very happy here, enjoying working with my players. Hopefully, we’ll take Bodrum FK to where we envision it, and then we’ll see what life has in store.”
