Fenerbahçe’s Acun Ilıcalı Asks Galatasaray Tough Questions: “Did You Receive Money from Illegal Betting?”

Fenerbahçe Vice President Acun Ilıcalı responded to the statements made by Galatasaray’s 2nd President Metin Öztürk. Ilıcalı said, "When you divert the issue and attack me, you appear to be in a difficult position and guilty."

Acun Ilıcalı responded to Metin Öztürk’s statements through his social media account.

Starting his remarks with, “Yesterday, I began by saying, ‘Everything I will talk about will be concrete; I won’t discuss any claims or gray areas. No one should make idle talk, divert the conversation elsewhere, or attack us to vent their anger,'” Ilıcalı stated, “Unfortunately, certain scribes are engaged in a complete effort to respond with nothing but idle chatter. Metin Öztürk, who just attempted to send me a message in his own way, is also trying to muddle the issue with idle talk. Especially those who, in their attempt to attack me based on the baseless and ugly slanders I brought to court, made by our former president in his desperate bid to win the election, find themselves in a ridiculous situation.”

Ilıcalı continued, “I will give concrete responses to those trying to slander me and distort the issue with irrelevant topics: The betting ad broadcasted on TV8 came from a Dutch service provider, received externally, and was a commercial with which our channel had no agreement, nor did we receive any payment. We have explained this to the public, and this fact is well-known by everyone.”

Additionally, Ilıcalı said:

“Now, to the spokespersons and Metin Öztürk, who are trying to respond to me, I will ask you four concrete questions about the real issues you’ve created, and I expect concrete answers:

1- I have never met with, made an agreement with, or received any money from an illegal betting company.
Did you meet with an illegal betting company? Did you make an agreement? Did you receive money from its sponsorship?

2- If you received money from an illegal betting company, wouldn’t that money be illegal?
Doesn’t this create unfair competition?

3- Did you correctly report the salaries of the players you signed last season? All of Turkey knows you didn’t.
Can you deny this?

4- Doesn’t this create unfair competition? Doesn’t it give you an unfair advantage in your spending limits in both cases?

When you divert the issue and attack me, you appear to be in a difficult position and guilty. I expect you to focus on these clear questions and give concrete answers.”
